La Foux d'Allos is situated in the highest part of the French département, 'Les Alpes de Haute Provence', north west of the Cote d'Azur and the world-famous resorts of Nice, Monte Carlo and Cannes.

Left: the river Verdon springs from the slopes above La Foux before dropping down into the Gorges du Verdon, a popular attraction in the heart of Provence.

Right: the water fall in the Lance river is just a short walk from the fortified village of Colmars, a few kilometres down the valley. Colmars has two ancient forts marking the medieval boundary between France and Provence.

Above: the road leading northwards from La Foux climbs to 2300 metres over the Col d'Allos which is closed each year from November to May.

Below: one of the many picturesque hill villages on the way down to Nice in the foothills of the Alps.

Left: La Foux viewed from above the village ski slopes in the summer.
